or to those who hold valid working visas or permitsOur Brisbane based client is seeking an experienced GIS Programmer initially for three months with an option to extend for another three months.
The purpose of this position is to source the services of a Specified Personnel with the skills and experience necessary to undertake senior GIS programming activities which contribute to the Project’s ability to merge and update mapping requirements throughout Queensland.
Under the direction of the Project Board, the overall responsibilities and requirements of the Senior GIS Programmer are to:
* Update mapping system covering the Queensland and near by areas. This includes adding new map information, for example, transportation routes, address data;
Merge new data from various sources into the master dataset;
* Ensure feature attributes are accurately populated;
* Gather valid and reliable map based information;
* Work openly and co-operatively within the team and the business to maintain quality and consistently meet agreed time scales;
* Develop and follow pre-set processes and procedures to maintain GIS data;
* Ensure effective application of cartographic techniques;
* Use GIS software to create queries and perform analysis of location, relationships, trends, patterns, adjacency, containment, and proximity of complex features and data;
* Develop applications and scripts to automatically distribute GIS data to remote data stores; and
* Work closely with Department of Community Safety to develop processes to share data.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Specialist
* A passion for geospatial technology and its applications;
* A strong background in GIS programming and scripting;
* A high level of experience in a number of GIS software packages and associated databases in particular;
* MapInfo (Mandatory);
* FME (Highly Desirable);
* ESRI suite (Highly Desirable); and
* Be an expert in at least one GIS programme language and environment e.g. SQL, C#.
Generalist
* Familiar with relational database theory;
* Familiarity with technical information, GIS practices and conventions (essential);
* Display excellent analytical and problem solving abilities; and
* Excellent cartographic skills.
Cultural
* Ability to develop effective relationship/s with relevant staff, management and relevant stakeholder/s; and
* Ability to quickly develop knowledge.
Qualifications
* A degree in GIS or Spatial Sciences related discipline is required; and
* At least 4 years experience working in the field of GIS.
Tools and Methodology Experience
* Experience in applying GIS skills and techniques to different disciplines are considered core skills.
