Astron Environmental Services is one of Australia's longest established environmental consultancies with over 25 years continuous experience in Western Australia.

Astron specialises in remote area environmental projects and has extensive experience in the mining, pastoral, oil and gas and conservation areas, particularly throughout the Pilbara, Kimberley and Mid-West regions of WA.

Reporting to the Senior Landscape Ecologist (GIS), your role as GIS Officer will be to:

Provide GIS and spatial analysis support, including:
- Provision of client mapping services and products;
- Supervision (as required) of personnel tasked with producing mapping products; and
- Quality review of mapping products produced by personnel prior to release to client.

Train and supervise personnel in basic GIS and spatial analysis using ESRI® ArcGIS, including:

- Contribution to the annual GIS training calendar for personnel; and
- Supervision and mentoring of personnel in GIS projects.

Assisting scientists in field studies and/or reporting, including:

- Provision of advice on site selection and data measurements suitable for application in spatial analyses; and

- Participation in occasional field trips to train personnel in the use of field mapping tools.

You should have a minimum tertiary qualification in Spatial Sciences or equivalent. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills, and display a high level of attention to detail. Previous experience using ESRI® ArcGIS is essential whilst experience with MicroStation and AutoCad would be an advantage. Occasional travel to remote WA locations is required in order to be involved in field mapping exercises.
